We provide training to all of our Fire Fighters every Tuesday. Our intial taining to be a firefighter is done through PST however we provide weekly training at the station to keep our knowledge up to date. Here you can find some pictures and descriptions of the trainings we most recently have conducted.
Rope rescue can be utilized on a big number of calls. It all depends on if we have the man power to conduct such a rescue. Our department has recently made some upgrades to our rope equitment to help better our ability to safely and efficiently acess a patient over an embankment.
Staying up to date on new pump operations on not only new truck but old trucks is very important. Being perficiant on the operations on how to get water to a hose line could be the difference between life and death.
It is a critical part of our job not only to stay up to date with current EMS practices but to also get in our "CE" hours for us to be able to maintain licenses if we have them. At our department we have all the way down to basic first aid to emergency medical responders (EMR) and Emergencyaie EmergencyaiEmergencyai Medical Technicians (EMT's). All of these services require different level of initial and continued training.
Ventilation can be very beneficial but if done improperly can make things worse. Ventilation done correctly can cool the atmosphere inside the burning structure as well as release trapped smoke which allows toxins to escape and improves visibility, but if done improperly or at the wrong time can cause the fire to spread.
Nothing concerns a firefighter more than hearing dispatch say the words "occupants inside". Though we still search the structure even when we hear all occupants are out of the structure. Hearing those words can change a lot of how we respond. So we have to train to get trapped individuals out of the the house using different tactics and tools at our disposal.
